Sleep Apnea can Cause Cancer

Sleep apnea is a problem for many Americans. Either not breathing for a short period of time with snoring or without spells trouble for the body. The tissue in the throat area collapses, interrupting passage of air. In many cases, the individual gasps for air and starts to breathe again. When breathing is stopped for a moment, the body and it's vessels are deprived of oxygen. As this takes place the system goes into an oxygen deprived situation. This gives time for the system to be harmed and start harmful processes.

As it has been found in recent study--this European doctor who studied many hundreds of individuals in 25 year period has found that those with sleep apnea can get cancer. The facts are that once the body goes through this oxygen deprived moment, there are smaller vessels produced which are cancerous. Besides cancer sleep apnea has been linked to heart disease as well.

It is important to try to treat sleep apnea, if you know it is going, on before matters get worse. There are different methods of treatment. What may be right for you will be determined by the physician. Couple of the treatments are:

  • Mask that could be worn while sleeping
  • Patches that could be placed in the nasal area--this is usually utilized for milder forms of sleep apnea.

There may be different types of option available to you for sleep apnea by your doctor. It is essential that you do try to address this issue before you body gains problems.

Other ideas that may be helpful for sleep apnea:

  • Position of your sleep--sometimes it is helpful to sleep on your side rather than on your back.
  • Positioning your pillow in a way that it supports your head in a way that it would not push your chin into your chest.
  • Weight loss--this is a very important and beneficial way of handling some sleep apnea.
  • Watching your diet--some individuals may have sensitivity to certain types of food or accumulate phlegm which will gather in throat area. By eliminating such foods, such as too much dairy at one time or heavy type food, you could help the situation better.
